Dr. Anantha Duraiappah: Exekutivdirektor
International Human Dimensions Programme for Global Environmental Change (IHDP), Bonn

Dr Anantha Duraiappah is an Executive Director of the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) since 2010. Dr Duraiappah is an environmental-development economist with more than two decades of experience at the international level.

Until his appointment with IHDP, Dr Duraiappah served as the Chief of the Ecosystem Services and Economics Unit with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya. Within UNEP, Dr Duraiappah was responsible for both the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment follow up activities and for developing the field of the economics of ecosystem services. He was also the team leader for the establishment of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

Dr Duraiappah has held senior positions in multiple development and academic organisations, such as the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) in Winnipeg, Canada, and the Institute for Environmental Studies at Vrije University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. During his time as the Economic Policy Director of IISD, Dr Duraiappah’s work focused on the analysis of the Human Well-being Ecosystem Services Nexus.
Dirk Niebel: Bundesminister für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung, Bonn/Berlin

Dirk Niebel, geboren am 29. März 1963 in Hamburg, ist seit Oktober 2009 Bundesminister für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung. Nach einer achtjährigen Dienstzeit als Fallschirmjäger und dem Studium des Verwaltungswesens an der FH des Bundes - Fachbereich Arbeitsverwaltung – war er seit 1993 als Arbeitsvermittler bei der Arbeitsagentur Heidelberg tätig.

Seit September 1998 gehört er als Abgeordneter für den Wahlkreis 274 Heidelberg-Weinheim dem Deutschen Bundestag an. Er war von 1998-2009 Arbeitsmarktpolitischer Sprecher der FDP-Bundestagsfraktion und von Mai 2005 bis Oktober 2009 Generalsekretär der FDP-Bundespartei. Seit dem 28. Oktober 2009 ist er Bundesminister für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung.

Von 2003 bis 2009 war er Mitglied des Kuratoriums der Friedrich-Naumann-Stifung für die Freiheit. Seit 1998 ist er Mitglied und von 1998-2009 war er Stellvertretender Vorsitzender der Deutsch-Israelischen Parlamentariergruppe, seit 2000 ist er Vizepräsident der Deutsch-Israelischen Gesellschaft.
Dr. Norbert Röttgen: Bundesminister für
Umwelt, Naturschutz und Reaktorsicherheit, Berlin

Dr. Norbert Röttgen ist seit Oktober 2009 Bundesminister für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Reaktorsicherheit. Zuvor war er fünf Jahre lang 1. Parlamentarischer Geschäftsführer der CDU/CSU-Bundestagsfraktion und von 2002-2005 rechtspolitischer Sprecher der CDU/CSU-Bundestagsfraktion. Dr. Norbert Röttgen ist Mitglied des Deutschen Bundestages seit 1994.

Prof. Dr. Janos J. Bogardi: Mitglied des Kuratoriums der Stiftung Entwicklung und Frieden

Professor Janos J. Bogardi took up the position of Executive Officer on 1 June 2009. His first degree was in Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Budapest, Hungary, with special emphasis on water resources and agricultural water resources development. After obtaining a post graduate Diploma on Hydrology from the University of Padua, Italy, He earned his PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.

Early in his career he worked as a consulting engineer in Africa and was seconded by the German Agency for Technical Co-operation (GTZ) to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand for five years. He was Professor for Hydraulics, and quantitative Water Resource Management Hydrology at the Agricultural University of Wageningen, the Netherlands, then worked with the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, France, ultimately as the Chief of the Section on Sustainable Water Resources and Management. He was then appointed Director of the United Nations University - Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) in Bonn, Germany and has been Vice-Rector a.i. of the Vice Rectorate of UNU in Europe (UNU-ViE) since May 2007.

Prof. Bogardi has authored, co-authored, and edited more than 170 publications. In June 2008, he was honored by the International Cannes Water Prize "Grand Prix des Lumières de l?Eau de Cannes". Janos brings to the GWSP a wealth of international experience and a wide knowledge of water issues.

Hyacinth Elayo: Analyst
Zentrum für Erneuerbare Energien und Energieeffizienz bei der ECOWAS (ECREEE), Kap Verde

As Energy Policy Analyst, Hyacinth Elayo gives input and participates in the
development of programmes and activities that seek to create the necessary
national and regional policy frameworks that support the proliferation of
renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies and use.

Prior to that, he was an intern with the Energy Department of the ECOWAS
Commission based in Abuja, Nigeria, where he participated in the preparatory
and establishment phase of ECREEE. He previously worked as a business
development analyst with Ecosse Global Energy Limited, a company providing
solutions for the oil and gas, as well as the renewable energy industry.

Hyacinth has over 8 years experience of working in the energy and mining
industries, government establishments, and civil society groups in Nigeria and
the United Kingdom. This includes research and analysis of long- range energy
policy formulation, strategies and recommendations which essentially seeks to
provide an energy solution for combating poverty, providing affordable energy,
and making sustainable development a reality in the West African sub-region.

Mr Elayo holds an MA in International Relations from Lancaster University,
United Kingdom, and an MSc in Energy Studies with specialisation in Energy
Policy from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy
(CEPMLP), University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom.
Angelica Maria Kappel: Bürgermeisterin der Bundesstadt Bonn

Angelica Maria Kappel ist seit 2009 Bürgermeisterin der Bundesstadt Bonn. Seit dem Jahr 1999 ist Frau Kappel aktiv in der Kommunalpolitik der Stadt tätig. Sie wurde 2003 Mitglied des Rates der Stadt Bonn.

Frau Kappel ist langjähriges Mitglied der Partei Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, der Sie 1997 bei trat. Sie ist wissenschaftspolitische und sportpolitische Sprecherin der Grünen Ratsfraktion seit 2003.

Mahama Kappiah: Executive Director
ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Cape Verde

Mahama Kappiah is the Executive Director of the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE). He was formerly Head of the ECOWAS Energy Division. Some of his achievements include the creation of the West African Power Pool (WAPP), the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulation Authority (ERERA), development of the regional program on access to energy services and the creation of ECREEE. Mr. Kappiah has over 20 years of experience working on issues related to energy, environment, climate change and sustainable development. Prior to joining the ECOWAS Commission, he worked in the planning and development Department of the Volta River Authority (VRA) of Ghana, where he served in various capacities from Electrical Engineer to Manager of the transmission-planning unit.

Internationale und EU-Angelegenheiten "Erneuerbare Energien" im Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Reaktorsicherheit, Berlin

Mr Neitzel has studied Political Science. He started his professional career in the 80ies in the Federal Environmental Agency (UBA), Berlin, responsible for Environmental Labelling (“Blue Angel”) und Green Public Procurement. He continued to work in UBA in the 90ies as Head of a Section covering a wide variety of issues on product related environmental protection including sustainable consumption patterns, life-cycle assessments for products and services or “faire trade”. He covers as well responsibilities on the international level as a member of the Executive Committee of the Global Ecolabelling Network or Head of the German Delegation of activities within the ISO 14000 processes. Since 2000 he worked in the International Division of the Federal Ministry for the Environment responsible for bilateral cooperation with several countries (e.g. Japan, Mexico and Turkey), security implications of climate change or international cooperation on renewable energies including project-related responsibilities within the International Climate Initiative of the BMU. He was invited to be Vice-Chair of the Working Party for Global and Structural Policies of the OECD.

Münchener Rückversicherungs-Gesellschaft

Ernst Rauch studierte von 1981-1986 am Institut für Allgemeine und Angewandte Geophysik der Universität in München. Er schloß sein Diplom mit einer Arbeit über Ultraschallseismik an Bohrkernen aus dem Forschungsprojekt zur Kontinentalen-Tiefbohrung (KTB) der Bundesrepublik Deutschland ab und war dann von 1986 bis 1988 als wissenschaftlicher Assistent im Feldlabor der KTB und an der Universität in München tätig.

Von dort wechselte Ernst Rauch im Juni 1988 zum Bereich GeoRisikoForschung der Münchener Rück. Sein Tätigkeitsschwerpunkt lag zunächst im Bereich der Erdbeben-Risikoanalyse und Mitarbeit bei der Entwicklung eines Erdbeben-Simulationsmodells. Seit Anfang der 90er-Jahre – mit ausgelöst durch die hohen Schadenbelastungen aus der Wintersturmserie 1990 – verlagerte sich der Verantwortungsbereich von Ernst Rauch zunehmend hin zur Bewertung und Modellierung meteorologischer Risiken. Nach der Übernahme der Fachgebietsleitung im Jahr 2000 folgte im April 2004 die Leitung der Abteilung „Sturm/Unwetter/Klimaänderung“ der Münchener Rück. Seit April 2007 liegt der Schwerpunkt seines Arbeitsgebiets auf der Steuerung und Koordination aller im Zusammenhang mit dem Thema „Klimaänderung“ stehenden Aufgabengebiete innerhalb der Münchener Rück Gruppe. In diesem Zusammenhang hat Hr. Rauch zum 1.4.2008 die Leitung des neu gegründeten Münchener Rück Corporate Climate Centre übernommen.

Ernst Rauch ist Mitglied in der Deutschen Geophysikalischen Gesellschaft, der Wind-Technologischen Gesellschaft (WTG, Deutschland), der Australian Earthquake Engineering Society und der American Association for Wind Engineering.
